Dilworth is a neighborhood of Charlotte, North Carolina. The neighborhood was Charlotte’s first streetcar suburb and was established by Edward Dilworth Latta in the 1890’s on 250 acres southwest of the original city limits. Planned largely with a grid pattern similar to the city’s original four wards, Dilworth was initially designated the Eighth Ward.
The streets of Dilworth feature stately, mature oak trees, sidewalks and houses with front porches. The homes are primarily bungalows, an occasional Queen Anne and larger, two-story Colonial Revivals. East Boulevard serves as the main thoroughfare through the neighborhood and is lined with offices, shops, art galleries and restaurants, many located in renovated houses. Much of the neighborhood is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Dilworth is just minutes from Uptown Charlotte and has some of the best skyline views in the city. Homes in Dilworth are typically priced per square foot, but new condo development along the fringes of the area offer more affordable living in an exceptional Charlotte location.
